Harmonica UK Virtual Open Mic

Just got off my second visit to the Harmonica UK Virtual Open Mic. It’s a monthly Zoom meeting where harmonica enthusiasts meet and play harmonica at each other. It’s very relaxed, welcoming and supportive. It would be a great place to play in front of other people for the first time, or just to listen to other people play. There’s no restrictions on style or ability. All are welcome.

I’d wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone I’m working with as a gentle introduction to playing in front of other people. Way less intimidating than standing up in a pub, and you’re already used to playing to me over Zoom anyway. What do you have to lose? If you’re tempted but nervous, drop me a line and I’ll do my best to encourage and answer any questions you may have.

The next meeting is on Saturday March 5th 2022 at 5pm. I’ll update this post with the Zoom details when they are published. I’d be so chuffed if any of you folk came to play a tune (one of the study songs with the backing track would be totally fine. If you have your own stuff, even better!)

If you’re not familiar with Harmonica UK you should take a look. They are a charity for the support and promotion of harmonica playing in the UK. They run all sorts of events and festivals, as well as producing a bi-monthly (I think it’s bi-monthly) harmonica magazine which they deliver right to your door. Membership is only £20 a year so it’s well worth it. Check them out. https://www.harmonica.uk/
