I’m still away on me jollies until July 15th but I’ve just come across this program on BBC Sounds and wanted to share before I forget, it’s only available for the next few weeks.
Wish You Were There – Little Walter. Richard Hawley talks about Little Walter’s tour of the UK in the early 60’s with a series of pickup bands, and specifically his near mythical gig at the Esquire club in Sheffield.
It’s fascinating to hear about how Chicago Blues enthusiasts in the UK managed to bring blues artists over from the states and the effect it had on music made by British musicians.
There’s a clip in the program of a recording of one of the gigs. I’d love to find a copy of that if anyone can point me in the right direction.
